With all the ways the physical world is moving into the digital space, it’s more important than ever to make cyber security a priority for your home. Not only do you want to keep your digital fingerprint safe from hackers, but as more and more people are building a smart home with digital technology, cyber security is at the forefront of protecting your physical belongings as well. Security devices like Bitdefender Box, Cujo, Dojo & Keezel are all great products that offer a high level or protection you should be looking for in today’s world.
What Do Cyber Security Devices Really Do?
In the most basic sense, cyber security devices protect your home network and all your connected devices from online threats like viruses, malware, and it ensures safe browsing. Each product we reviewed takes it further, offering features like protection against cyberbullying and online predators, high-level device management so you can see who is accessing your home wifi, and encrypts sensitive data so hackers can’t access any of your information.
Why You Should Get A Cyber Security Firewall Device
There are over eight billion smart devices being used daily around the world, everything from speakers to thermostats. Every time you go online with one of these devices, you put yourself at risk for a cyber attack. Even if your primary use of the digital world is web browsing and checking your email, you are still at risk.
Considering the alternative, owning a cyber security device like the ones we tested is a great way to ensure you are doing everything you can to monitor your devices and your networks from any potential attack. As we continue to add smart home products that sync with our home wifi, the risk only grows and the need for these devices is that much more apparent.
Best Firewall Device: Bitdefender Box vs Cujo vs Dojo vs Keezel
There were a lot of issues with the original Bitdefender Box when it came out on the market in 2015 — it was the first product of its kind, so you’d expect a few bugs. The recently released Bitdefender Box 2 has only been on the market for a short time, but the reviews have been mostly positive and it seems that a lot of the issues from the first edition have been fixed. With the Bitdefender Box 2, you get safe browsing and protection against phishing, online fraud, viruses, and malware for all connected devices. There are parental controls that monitor not just risky websites, but also online preditors that might target your kids. The Bitdefender Box 2 protects everything from your network to your devices, and the easy to understand app makes it simple to check in and get quick updates about any potential threats.
The price is a bit steep, but there isn’t a better product on the market for protecting your digital devices and network.
Cujo’s smart internet security firewall doesn’t have all the bells and whistles at Bitdefender Box 2, but what it does have that makes it our co-winner is a proven track record of protection that makes it one of the most popular cyber security devices on the market. It does a lot of the same things as Bitdefender Box 2, like protect all your home network devices from cyber attacks and viruses, and also comes with an easy to use app that allows you to monitor your home network.
The data transfer rate is the fastest of any of the products we tested, coming in at 1Gb of data transferred per second. What this means for you is that there is no lag time when you are web browsing or downloading (safe) content. Cujo does have to be hardwired into your router, which is one of the only drawbacks to the product, although some people don’t mind since their router is usually tucked away somewhere and doesn’t need to be seen.

Dojo is easy to set up, and works wirelessly to connect to your home router and begin protecting your devices. Dojo works great with all devices, including smart home devices like smart locks and sensors, as well as traditional devices like phones and tablets. It provides real-time information, so you know exactly when a threat occurs. They also have fantastic customer support in case you need help understanding how to use the product.
Keezel is great because it is portable, powerful, and allows you to secure your devices on public wifi networks. You can connect up to five devices to each Keezel, so it might not make sense for larger families with multiple phones, tablets, and computers. These make for great additions to some of the other products we reviewed that only work on a home network.
